Heritage Consultancy: Head of New Business Development

Remuneration: market leading – company car optional

We are looking for a focused self-motivated individual to join our Heritage team in a new position especially tailored to the successful candidate.  You will have a background in archaeology & historic environment practice with a demonstrable track-record in heritage consultancy and the management of consultants working on diverse projects with new and existing clients.

You will be degree educated and have experience of working cross-functionally at all levels in a geographically dispersed organisation and of managing multi-disciplinary teams.

With a strong track record of leadership, you will have proven ability to (1) create and drive a high performing team, (2) demonstrate extensive knowledge of the historic environment of England and the role of heritage consultancy in the planning eco-system & (3) deliver new business opportunities.

Reporting to senior management, you will be expected to obtain and sustain new business opportunities throughout the South of England.

The applicant should have demonstrable experience in digital drawing and surveying and show an interest in cutting-edge software applications in archaeology such as 3D modelling and digital recording.

Main duties:
Auditing and production of digital drawings and plans to publication standard for our archaeological projects.
Supporting the team in the development and implementation of site recording strategies.

Essential criteria:
IT literate (Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop)
Excellent problem-solving skills
Ability to work to standards and deadlines
Ability to work well in a team
Degree in archaeology or related subject

Exceptional attention to detail

Good communication skills

Environmental Science Assistant – Milton Keynes

Full Time Permanent

The main duties will be manually processing large volumes of archaeological soil samples for the recovery of palaeoenvironmental material, using water flotation. This role can be physically demanding and repetitive, requiring manual dexterity with good attention to detail.

Additional duties may include accurately and efficiently sorting the palaeoenvironmental retents and flots in preparation for report writing.

Ability to work well in a team
Work to a tight deadline

Desirable Criteria:

A degree in Archaeology (or related) or Palaeoenvironmental Archaeology

Senior Researcher & Report Writer – Archaeology and Built Heritage

The successful applicant will have extensive experience in the desk based assessment/environmental impact assessment/heritage assessment field, with an excellent academic background, a demonstrable track record of report writing and delivery in a commercial archaeological/heritage consultancy environment and an ability to manage and deliver upon a diverse range of archaeological and built heritage projects.

The Role

Working with the Research Director, members of the management & research teams and independently on a diverse range of heritage projects across the country including the production of historic environment desk based assessments, heritage impact assessments, cultural heritage chapters for environmental impact assessments, environmental statements and historic building surveys (Levels 1-4).

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Excellent communication, research and report writing skills
• Relevant degree (preferably to Masters level) in archaeology, historic environment, historic buildings, landscape archaeology
• Have an established specialist skill area (built heritage, archaeology, landscapes, marine & tidal environment, building conservation ) to support the Company’s delivery of its wide-ranging works portfolio
• Proven experience of delivery on a wide range of heritage projects
• Membership of CIfA, or equivalent professional body, at Associate or Member level.
• Experience in assessing heritage significance and setting.
• Knowledge of national legislation and planning policy in respect to heritage management
• Familiarity with ArcGIS and CAD/Adobe Illustrator applications, desirable but not essential.
• Willingness to travel
• Full driving licence
