Location: Lewisham

Key Points

  • Historical and Architectural development of the site
  • Detailed Townscape Appraisal
  • Comprehensive site visit
  • Consideration of the significance of the Conservation Area in the context of proposed development

Summary

The proposal site occupies a prominent location immediately east to a Conservation Area and close to an asset which is considered a ‘Building of Townscape Merit.’ Given the proposed development, a highly detailed and thorough assessment was required in order to assess the magnitude of heritage impact and the effect on the Conservation Area.

We undertook a wide-ranging site visit in order to consider views and to and from the site and to assess the possible impact on the townscape. In combination with detailed desktop research and consideration of the relevant legislative framework, we assessed the historical and architectural development of the site as well as overall significance of impact.

Results

Phased plans, elevations and cross-sections were produced, with a particular focus on the attic and roofspace. A 3D model of the timber frames was created, with appropriate annotations and colour-coding, which was ultimately used for discussion and informed decision-making to support an application for Listed Building Consent.
