Heritage Assessment
Listed Building Consent
Key Points
- Listed Building Consent
- Grade II Listed building
- Central Winchester
- Assessment of impact within the Winchester Conservation Area
Summary
The property is a late 18th century two-storey building situated in The Walled Town, one of eight Character Areas comprising the Winchester City Conservation Area. It runs along the northern perimeter of Winchester Cathedral Close, a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and is in proximity to a number of Grade II Listed buildings.
Given the high significance of the property as a Grade II Listed building, the Heritage Assessment was suitably detailed and comprehensive and it focused on the magnitude of impact of the proposed works, taking in to account the very minimal external change.
Results
Phased plans, elevations and cross-sections were produced, with a particular focus on the attic and roofspace. A 3D model of the timber frames was created, with appropriate annotations and colour-coding, which was ultimately used for discussion and informed decision-making to support an application for Listed Building Consent.
