Heritage Impact Assessment, Northamptonshire
Border Archaeology undertook a Heritage Assessment for a private developer regarding a proposed residential conversion of an unlisted 18th/19th century farm building in Loddington, Northamptonshire.
In Brief
Key Points
- Assessment of the potential heritage impacts of the proposed development.
- The assessment was informed by a site visit, consultation of the Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record, reports on previous investigations, and analysis of historic mapping and documentary records.
Summary
The assessment determined that the proposed renovations would have a Slight impact on the Grade unlisted historic farm buildings. This reflected the buildings’ Medium significance as an outfarm complex of a probable late 18th/early 19th century date, substantially rebuilt in the late 19th/early 20th century, considered against the magnitude of impact, assessed as Minor. This assessment reflected the fact that the proposed development will have a degree of impact upon the historic building, in terms of its fabric and setting. However, it was assessed that the proposed development will ensure the long-term sustainability of the historic building, parts of which were in a poor state of repair, with particular respect to the outbuildings which were in a ruinous, roofless condition.
Results
The assessment determined that the renovation works would likely have a Slight impact in terms of built heritage. The completion of the Heritage Assessment allowed the application for planning permission to progress.
