Kate Smith
Kate has a Degree in Librarianship and Information Studies, a Postgraduate qualification in Book and Archive Conservation and a Master’s in Archives and Records Management. She worked as a Library Assistant at Lambeth Palace before moving to the Conservation Department at The National Archive, Kew, where she stayed for 11 years starting as a hands-on flat document Archive Conservator repairing paper and parchment documents, progressing to Conservation Manager. Kate was seconded to the NewPRO Team in 1996 during major relocation of UK national archive from central London to Kew.
Kate relocated to Herefordshire in 2001. Part-time work, fitting around family life, included admin and bookkeeping posts in the charity sector, a parish clerk role and a one-year contract at Hereford Cider Museum on the Apples and Pears Oral History Project. She joined Border Archaeology in 2015 as an Archiving Assistant and has progressed to her current role as Director: Performance Delivery where she directs the company’s archiving activities.
