Interesting finds recovered by Border Archaeology Field Archaeologists in Milton Keynes… 

Roman shoes, boots and sandals were generally studded for comfort, durability and to secure the individual leather components by using short thick-headed hobnails hammered into the sole.

These four hobnails were found in the fill of a cremation vessel- perhaps to aid the deceased on their journey to the afterlife…
