Key Points

  • Detailed record of a largely intact survival of one of the most important and substantial military medical institutions of its era

Reflecting the changing face of modern warfare these buildings were continually adapted to meet the needs of wounded service men and women.

From its origin, tending casualties of the Crimean War, the hospital developed through the era of 20th Century global conflict, to become one of the most important and substantial military medical institutions of its time.

The following attests to the high standard of our report:

“Thank you for forwarding the archaeological building recording for the married quarters at Royal Victoria Country Park ahead of the proposed alterations. I have had the chance to review this document and am happy to endorse it to you. Indeed, I feel that it is a very good piece of work placing the buildings and the surviving aspects of their layout and fabric to be placed into their historic context. It will stand as an admirable record of those buildings.

I am happy to confirm that I would not raise any archaeological objection to the discharge of the archaeological condition.” David Hopkins – County Archaeologist, Hampshire
